Flexor Tendon Injury and Repair:

In the article below, the American Society of Hand Therapists explain the function of the flexor tendon, as well as treatment options if the tendon becomes injured. A flexor tendon injury may be detected by the inability to bend one’s fingers or thumb, as the flexor tendons are located on the palm side of the hand and are involved in activities such as making a fist, gripping, and pinching. If you feel you may have damaged your flexor tendon, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible, as prompt treatment is necessary. In cases of a ruptured tendon, occupational therapy with a certified hand therapist is recommended following surgical repair. If you have undergone flexor tendon repair, or suspect you have a flexor tendon injury, please contact Ability Hand to Shoulder Rehabilitation for more information.
