Extensor Tendon Injury and Repair

The American Society of Hand Therapists define the extensor tendon below as well as explain treatment possibilities if the tendon becomes injured. An extensor tendon injury may be detected by the inability to straighten one’s fingers or thumb, as your extensor tendons are located on the back of your hand to help you open your hand. If you feel you may have damaged your extensor tendon you should see a physician as soon as possible, as prompt treatment is necessary. In extensor tendon injuries, the physician will determine whether they feel you should begin with treatment from a certified hand therapist, or if surgery is the first line of treatment, with therapy to follow. If you have experienced an extensor tendon injury and would like more information on how Ability Hand to Shoulder Rehabilitation can help in your recovery, please contact us.
