Trigger Finger

The American Society of Hand Therapists explain the symptoms, causes, and treatment of trigger finger below. Trigger finger may present initially as pain and inflammation of one or more fingers. This leads to the sensation of “clicking” or the finger getting “stuck” in a bent or straight position. A certified hand therapist is typically used as the first line of treatment, along with anti-inflammatory medication, before considering a surgical approach. Hand therapy can often eliminate the need for surgery by decreasing the inflammation and restoring the motion, strength, and functionality of your finger. If therapy is unsuccessful or if the trigger finger is more severe, a surgery may be recommended. Hand therapy at Ability is also highly beneficial following surgery to ensure complete recovery.
