Shoulder Dislocation

A shoulder dislocation can occur when the humerus (upper arm) is forcefully pulled out of the shoulder joint. Below, the American Society of Hand Therapists explains the symptoms and common treatments for this injury. Shoulder dislocations often occur as a result of a fall and cause pain, tingling, and even numbness from the shoulder down the arm. It is often necessary to immobilize the shoulder or, in severe cases, undergo surgical repair with therapy from a certified hand therapist to follow.
